If you could fund one sauna study in women's health - what would it be?
The Kuopio cohort is the scientific foundation this community is built on. 2,315 participants. 21 years of follow-up. Remarkable mortality outcomes.
All men.
The data on women is not incomplete. It is largely absent. We do not know how heat therapy interacts with the menstrual cycle, perimenopause, or postmenopause at a mechanistic level. We do not know the optimal protocol for women across life stages. We do not know whether the cardiovascular and cognitive outcomes observed in Finnish men replicate in women at all.
This is the gap Steam Collective exists to close.
But the question of where to start is a real one. Longitudinal cardiovascular outcomes. Hormonal interaction during perimenopause. Heat tolerance and thermoregulation across the cycle. Cognitive protection in postmenopausal women.
If you had one study to fund - what would it be? What question, if answered, would move the field furthest?
